Unitron awarded Red Dot: Best of the Best for top design quality and ground-breaking design

Moxi Now brings home Unitron’s first-ever top prize for product design and the company’s 4th and 5th consecutive Red Dot: Product Design awards

April 4, 2017 – Kitchener, CanadaUnitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, today announced two significant new wins on the product design world stage. For the first time ever, Moxi Now has been awarded top prize for product design by the internationally esteemed Red Dot organization. The world’s smallest wireless receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing instrument was voted RedDot: Best of the Best 2017 for top design quality and ground-breaking design by the Red Dot jury of 40 recognized experts, selected from a field of thousands of global entries. Stride M, the smallest member of Unitron’s Stride family of behind the ear (BTE) hearing instruments, is also recognized this year with a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017.

This marks Unitron’s fourth and fifth consecutive
Red Dot awards and the company’s first
Red Dot “best of the best” recognition.

“To be named “best of the best,” by the Red Dot jury, and to be selected for top prize from a field of thousands of incredible designs is a tremendous honour,” says Bruce Brown, Unitron Vice President of Global Marketing. “It clearly demonstrates to the market Unitron’s global leadership in hearing instrument design.”

A perfect combination of aesthetic and functional design

The Moxi Now hearing instrument, released to market in the Fall 2016, is designed to make the patient experience simple and enjoyable. The world’s smallest wireless RIC hearing instrument represents the perfect combination of aesthetic and functional design. Unitron’s product design philosophy puts the patient at the centre of design innovation. This is evident from the hearing instrument’s physical design to the enduring value of its performance. Tiny, beautiful and shaped through an organic and smooth design language, Moxi Now provides wearers with all day comfort. Stride M, released in the Spring 2016, is Unitron’s smallest BTE, while offering the highest output of any 312 BTE in the industry.

“In the design of Moxi Now, we approached the hearing instrument’s performance with the same human-centred philosophy that governs its design,” says Andre de Goeij, Unitron Director of Product Management and Product Marketing. “The result is an exceptionally well designed, fully automatic device that wearers can set and forget, allowing them to enjoy natural sound with a focus on conversation. The real-world data on a patient’s listening lifestyle, captured by Moxi Now, also provides healthcare professionals with new insights to improve the wearer experience, create deeper engagement and personalization and ultimately improve quality of care.”

“Wearers of the Stride M hearing instrument require more power, which typically comes at the cost of a larger size. However, our design teams understood that patient acceptance begins in the hand. They embraced the design challenge to put demanding performance into a small, powerful BTE, with a beautiful and comfortable design and a single easy-to-use control for those with dexterity challenges. It is fabulous to see their exceptional work recognized by the Red Dot jury,” added de Goeij.

Today’s healthcare consumer wants the same flexibility and convenience from their hearing instruments as they are able to have from a smartphone or any other personal device. At the same time, they don’t want to compromise on comfort and aesthetics,” says Andre de Goeij, Director of Product Management and Product Marketing, Unitron. “Moxi Fit R eliminates any existing compromise between a hearing instrument’s rechargeable capability and its size to provide patients with the ultimate flexibly delivered in the world’s smallest rechargeable hearing instrument.”

Tempus platform delivers the best in conversations
People who wear hearing instruments spend over half of each day connecting through conversations2,  and conversations in noise and crowds are the listening situations they struggle with the most3. Tempus brings new technologies to market that allows the wearer to actively participate in all types of conversations, even those taking place with significant background noise. Tempus’s intelligent SoundCore technology enables this by orchestrating four features to understand the listening environment and to make fluid adjustments. Tempus is more accurate and significantly faster at recognizing and locating the primary source of speech than Unitron’s previous platform, delivering the most realistic and natural sound yet.

“Traditional hearing instruments cannot determine the direction of speech and therefore do not benefit the listener who is trying to localize conversational speech.” explains Ara Talaslian, Vice President of R&D at Unitron. “With the Tempus platform, we have been able to achieve a quantum leap forward in accuracy and in our ability to simultaneously understand the listening environment and determine the precise direction of speech. These two capabilities mean a patient’s ability to understand and locate the source of sound goes to the next level, providing better sound quality and a more realistic, natural, and comfortable sound experience. Between the advanced sound system capabilities of Tempus and the small, rechargeable Moxi Fit R, this is by far the most advanced hearing solution Unitron has introduced.”

A consolidated snapshot view into the patient’s listening world
Unitron continues to introduce innovations beyond the product to enhance the overall patient experience; today releasing a new patient insights data screen providing a single snapshot view of the wearers listening lifestyle. Today’s healthcare consumers are more informed, more in control of their healthcare and more demanding of a better patient experience. The groundbreaking connection of Unitron’s Patient Ratings to Log It All and data logging gives hearing healthcare providers consolidated insights to engage in more collaborative discussions with today’s engaged patient and to develop a more personalized solution resulting in improved patient outcomes.

Moxi Now measures just 20.2mm tall and 6.5mm wide. And at 39% smaller volume than Unitron’s next smallest RIC, and 14% smaller than the next closest competitor, Moxi Now delivers amazing comfort, beautiful aesthetics and intuitive functionality in the smallest wireless RIC in the world. Leveraging Unitron’s patient-centric design philosophy, Moxi Now was designed by putting patient needs at the center, offering the discretion wearers crave, in a fully automatic, high performance, wireless hearing instrument they can “set and forget” and wear comfortably all day long.

“Through our design philosophy, we remain committed to creating the best and most complete experience possible while making the technology transparent to the wearer,” says Unitron Design Manager, Corey Banham. “Moxi Now’s design language and organic form provides patients with a hearing instrument that is absolutely discreet and comfortable, to address barriers to adoption and improve patient acceptance.”

Packed with performance
It is the world’s smallest hearing aid in its class, and Moxi Now does not compromise on performance. Built on the North sound processing platform, it combines the strength of three trailblazing features, SoundNav, Sound Conductor and SpeechZone™ 2, allowing patients to happily participate in every conversation while experiencing natural sound and comfortable listening.

Advancing the patient experience with Unitron’s industry-first patient insights

Moxi Now also incorporates Unitron’s industry-first patient insights to enhance counseling and intensify patient engagement. This powerful combination of objective evidence and subjective insights provides hearing healthcare providers with a complete and accurate picture of a patient’s listening experiences to strengthen evidence-based technology recommendations and improve quality of care.

“Moxi Now may be the industry’s smallest hearing instrument, although the ambitions behind it are quite big, ” says Bruce Brown, Vice President, Global Marketing for Unitron. “It is a product inspired by new consumer expectations with respect to aesthetics, comfort and performance. With patient insights, it provides a tangible way for hearing healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes.”
