Moxi Now’s tiny size provides an uncompromising combination of aesthetics, comfort and performance

August 30, 2016 – Kitchener, Canada – Proving that small is both beautiful and powerful, Unitron announced today the release of Moxi™ Now, the world’s smallest wireless receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) hearing aid1. Moxi Now is the latest addition to Unitron’s design-focused line up of RIC hearing instruments, including RedDot product design award winners, Moxi Kiss and Moxi Fit.

World's smallest wireless RIC joins the most design-focused lineup on the market
Moxi Now measures just 20.2mm tall and 6.5mm wide. And at 39% smaller volume than Unitron’s next smallest RIC, and 14% smaller than the next closest competitor, Moxi Now delivers amazing comfort, beautiful aesthetics and intuitive functionality in the smallest wireless RIC in the world. Leveraging Unitron’s patient-centric design philosophy, Moxi Now was designed by putting patient needs at the center, offering the discretion wearers crave, in a fully automatic, high performance, wireless hearing instrument they can “set and forget” and wear comfortably all day long.

“Through our design philosophy, we remain committed to creating the best and most complete experience possible while making the technology transparent to the wearer,” says Unitron Design Manager, Corey Banham. “Moxi Now’s design language and organic form provides patients with a hearing instrument that is absolutely discreet and comfortable, to address barriers to adoption and improve patient acceptance.”

Packed with performance
It is the world’s smallest hearing aid in its class, and Moxi Now does not compromise on performance. Built on the North sound processing platform, it combines the strength of three trailblazing features, SoundNav, Sound Conductor and SpeechZone™ 2, allowing patients to happily participate in every conversation while experiencing natural sound and comfortable listening.

Advancing the patient experience with Unitron’s industry-first patient insights

Moxi Now also incorporates Unitron’s industry-first patient insights to enhance counseling and intensify patient engagement. Log It All captures real-world evidence about a patient’s listening lifestyle, while Patient Ratings reveals important in-the-moment information on how patients were feeling about their hearing instrument performance. This powerful combination of objective evidence and subjective insights provides hearing healthcare providers with a complete and accurate picture of a patient’s listening experiences to strengthen evidence-based technology recommendations and improve quality of care.

“Moxi Now may be the industry’s smallest hearing instrument, although the ambitions behind it are quite big, ” says Bruce Brown, Vice President, Global Marketing for Unitron. “It is a product inspired by new consumer expectations with respect to aesthetics, comfort and performance. With patient insights, it provides a tangible way for hearing healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes.”

1 Moxi Now is the smallest wireless RIC in the world based on exterior dimensions compared  to other products in its class.

Unitron and hearing healthcare professionals embrace a vision for industry change

Engage US empowers hearing healthcare practitioners to create patient advocates and grow their practice

June 14, 2016 – Plymouth, MN, USA – Creating an exceptional patient experience begins with a vision for practice change. This was the key message during Unitron’s US Engage conference, a two-day event with hearing healthcare professionals June 2-3, 2016  in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We all know that healthcare is evolving rapidly and it’s not just technology innovation driving the change.  It can be argued that consumer expectations and access to information is driving this change at an unprecedented rate.  In the hearing aid industry, we’ve been slow to adopt many new ideas, but there’s never been a bigger opportunity before us,” says Mike Dittmann, President, Unitron USA. “With events like Engage, we are bringing together experts from inside and outside of the industry to challenge the status quo, collaborate and address these challenges.  At Unitron, our goal is to facilitate and assist hearing professionals to move beyond traditional approaches and thinking and find new ways to engage patients and grow practices.”

Over two days in Music City, Unitron leaders and hearing healthcare providers learned from renowned experts in the areas of baby boomer marketing and cultural changes, the creation of a first-class patient experience, and how to effectively lead through the creation of a solid vision.   Teamwork and trust allowed the discussion to move beyond the theory and into practice, using panel discussions, workshops and round table peer-to-peer Q & As to identify tangible tactics to take away and put immediately into practice.

Unitron US Engage 2016 keynote speakers included:

  • Matt Thornhill, founder and President of the Generations Matter think tank, author of Boomer Consumer. Read Matt’s guest blog on the Unitron website ‘Banking on the boomer bubble.’
  • Jim Tincher, founder of Heart of the Customer, and a “Certified Customer Experience Professional.”  Read Jim’s guest blog on the Unitron website ‘It’s all about the emotions.’
  • Steve Pawlett, Director of Global Learning and Development for Sonova and a topical expert on leadership, sales and coaching.

Conference participants reacted enthusiastically to the practical learning provided at the Engage event.

“We are committed to providing excellent patient-centered care and are so receptive to new ideas,” says Sarah Curtis, Clinical Audiologist, Audiology Services, University Hospitals Case Medical Center. “I personally think that it is wonderful that Unitron has elected to place its focus on taking care of the patient and on reaching new patients. It was nice to see such an approach and emphasis toward hearing health and not sales.”

Change brings growth and opportunities,” tweeted Dr. Sheryl Figliano of Centers for Hearing Care, yet another Engage Nashville attendee. “What an inspirational and practical two days! I’ve already implemented things I’ve learned with staff this morning!”

Unitron earns the company its third consecutive Red Dot Design Award

Stride P internationally recognized for its styling, comfort and intuitive control

April 12, 2016 – Kitchener, CanadaUnitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, today announced that Stride P, the most recent addition to Unitron’s patient-centric family of hearing aids has been recognized with the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016. The award is the third consecutive Red Dot award for Unitron, and the first for the Stride product family.

The international Red Dot jury, made up of independent design experts, educators and specialty journalists, gathers annually to appraise the best products of the year. More than 5200 products were submitted this for consideration this year, representing manufacturers and product designers from 57 nations. Products are evaluated for functionality, degree of innovation, formal quality and ecological compatibility, and award-winning products must demonstrate that design is an integral part of the innovative product solution.

Unitron’s latest Red Dot award winner is Stride P, the most recent addition to the Unitron family of hearing aids. Developed for patients with more severe hearing loss, the organically shaped, behind-the-ear (BTE) Stride P combines the best of fluid styling, comfort and intuitive control. For more severe hearing losses, a larger hearing instrument is required to house a more powerful battery. Stride P accommodates this design consideration with style and grace, featuring a flowing shape that tucks discreetly and comfortably behind the ear. G2 curvatures yield a smooth, flawless surface, while the darker accent applied to the central housing is designed to create an impression of a smaller hearing aid in the hand. User controls are characterized by intuitive design, including defined tactile program and volume buttons , easy operation even for those with dexterity issues, and a battery door that ensures batteries are inserted correctly. The close attention to physical and psychological comfort -- how Stride P feels and how it makes wearers feel -- and intuitive functionality improves patient acceptance.

“Stride P represents a further maturing of patient-centric design philosophy, initially launched with the award-winning Moxi product family and extends our unique design thinking to the BTE category,” says André de Goeij, Director of Product Management and Product Marketing, Unitron. “While Stride represents a larger form factor, its fluid design and flawless appearance successfully creates the impression of a much smaller hearing aid in the hand.”

Unitron packs a powerful punch with Stride™ M

Small, stylish and discreet, Unitron’s new 312 BTE offers highest gain/output in the industry

April 5, 2016 – Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of technologically advanced hearing solutions, today unveiled Stride M, the newest and most discreet member of the Stride family. Built on the North™ sound processing platform and continuing with Unitron’s patient centric design, Stride M 312 BTE packs powerful performance into a style that emphasizes comfort, aesthetics and intuitive functionality.

Full of performance
Stride M is proof that big performance can come in the smallest package. The 312 behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing instrument rounds out the Stride product family on the North platform, offering top of the class power with the highest output in the industry. Stride M leverages North’s signature features including SpeechZone 2, SoundNav and Sound Conductor, providing patients with a great listening experience even in the most difficult sound environments, and incorporates a telecoil for those who need it.

Stylish and discreet
In addition to packing a significant power punch, Stride M is Unitron’s most stylish and discreet BTE. The hearing instrument’s amazing, discreet look is inspired by Unitron’s patient-centric design philosophy, which focuses on providing the comfort and styles that hearing healthcare professionals need to break down patient barriers to acceptance and use.

“Stride M is Unitron’s smallest BTE, but still manages to provide the highest output of any 312 BTE in the industry, making it suitable for patients with a wide range of hearing losses, or who, for a variety of reasons, can’t wear a receiver-in-the-canal (RIC),” says André de Goeij, Director, Product Management and Product Marketing, Unitron. “And even better, Stride M comes wrapped in a discreet, amazing style. All of our North platform hearing instruments are designed to achieve the perfect mix of aesthetics, complete comfort and intuitive functionality, but when it comes to patient-centric design, no one in the industry has a BTE that even comes close to looking like this one.”

Product availability begins end of April 2016.

Unitron’s patient insights opens a new window into the patient experience

Powerful combination of objective evidence and patient insights to elevate level of care

April 5, 2016 – Kitchener, Canada – The growing availability of data analytics and a move to evidence-based medicine is creating an opportunity for change across all realms of healthcare. Unitron now brings these advances to hearing health with the release of patient insights, a new industry-first solution giving hearing healthcare professionals (HHCPs) a direct window into how patients are feeling about their hearing instrument performance.

A complete picture of the patient experience
Comprised of two industry-first features, Log It All and Patient Ratings, patient insights provides HHCPs with a more complete picture of the patient experience with their hearing instruments. Log It All captures objective data from the hearing instrument on the patient’s real-life hearing experiences across seven unique sound environments, while Patient Ratings provides the practitioner with subjective in-the-moment insights into a patient’s perception of their hearing experience. This powerful combination of evidence and insights gives the HHCP the whole picture to support their recommendations and elevate their level of care.

At the intersection of big data and patient demand
Unitron’s new patient insights sits at the intersection point of two mega trends impacting the healthcare market. First, rapid advancements in technology, such as mobile devices, sensors and wearables, now allow for low cost collection of patient data. Second, patients are demanding to be more engaged in their healthcare and want personalized solutions that fit their lifestyle. And, the explosion of smartphone use among healthy agers – 54% of individuals aged 50-64 and 27% of individuals 65+ own a mobile phone – makes patient monitoring and data collection easier than ever to achieve.1

“Hearing healthcare providers are starting to see the possibility and value of data collected on patient mobile devices and are realizing what a positive impact this information can have on their practice and the patient experience,” says Chris McIntyre, Senior Product Manager, Fitting Software and Mobile Apps at Unitron.

Better patient outcomes
The impact of patient insights on the patient experience and its ability to pave the way to better patient outcomes cannot be underestimated, says Dr. Don Hayes, Director of Clinical Research for Unitron. “The whole point of giving people a pair of hearing aids to try out in the field is to get back information about what works and doesn’t work for a patient,” says Hayes. “Until now, there’s been a disconnect between what the person says, and the ability to know what the hearing aid is doing. The combination of the objective data from Log It All with the subjective patient experience data gathered in-the-moment through Patient Ratings solves that problem. Patient insights provides HHCPs with the information they need to make changes to the hearing instruments so patients go out the door with a better fitting.”

New family of BTE and ITE product styles designed to remove patient barriers

September 29, 2015 – Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of technologically advanced hearing solutions, today unveiled Stride™, a new family of freshly designed BTE and ITE hearing instruments built on the North sound processing platform. Stride leverages Unitron’s patient-centric design philosophy and is packed with technologies that truly let patients focus on conversations in all listening environments.

Patient-centric design across BTE and ITE styles on the North platform
Stride joins the Moxi™ product family on the North platform, offering a BTE that pairs design focus with intuitive controls and ITEs that incorporate our premium technology in smaller styles including a 10A wireless directional and marry innovative design with durability. The Stride family of BTE hearing instruments delivers the natural sound and enjoyable conversations patients love in two wireless 13 battery options. Stride P pairs design with dual controls and Stride P Dura offers moisture resistance and durability without sacrificing style. Stride ITE hearing instruments are freshly designed inside and out and customized for comfort, and include new volume control, push button, plasma coating and microphone ports that reduce moisture and debris ingress to improve the patient experience.

“Stride is the next instalment in our patient-centric design philosophy, initially launched to market with the award-winning Moxi product family, says André de Goeij, Director of Product Management and Product Marketing, Unitron. “We are excited to extend that same industrial design innovation – a capability truly unique to Unitron – across BTE and ITE lines,” says André de Goeij. “ITEs continue to enjoy a high level of reliance in clinical practice, and remain a very important part of Unitron’s product portfolio.”

Paired with industry-first solutions Flex and Log It All for greater in-clinic success
Stride is paired with unique, industry-first solutions such as Flex™ and Log It All designed to spark evidence-based conversations that grow trust, motivate patients to act, increase patient satisfaction and ultimately, build practices. Over 80% of Flex customers believe the solution improves the patient experience and report an increase in the number of patients purchasing hearing aids. Log It All, an industry first data logging solution, enhances Flex by allowing HHCPs to gather information from a patient’s experiences wearing hearing instruments to create evidence-based conversations about their lifestyle and technology level choices. New patient-facing screens within the Log It All solution allow clinicians to easily paint a picture for an individual of their daily listening behaviors and patterns, further enriching patient conversations.

“Stride’s patient-centric design brings new BTEs and ITEs to market, rounding out Unitron’s offerings on the North platform. Unitron’s Moxi™ Fit Wins 2015 Red Dot Product Design Award

Company takes home third international design award for the forward-thinking Moxi product line

Kitchener, Canada – April 28, 2015 – Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, today announced that its intuitive, functional and elegant new Moxi(TM) Fit has earned the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015. The award marks the third major international design award for the Moxi product family.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Red Dot Product Design Award is among the world's largest and most distinguished design competitions. To mark this special anniversary a "star studded" jury of international design experts evaluated 4,928 entries in 31 product categories from 56 countries. The jury included Danish fashion designer David Andersen, German materials expert Dr. Sascha Peters, Wen-long Chen, CEO of the Taiwan Design Center, Malaysian-born star designer Jimmy Choo, German product design icon Professor Werner Aisslinger, and tangerine founder Martin Darbyshire. The jury was charged with rewarding innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability and ecological compatibility, among other criteria.

Moxi Fit combines style with intuitive functionality to give hearing instrument wearers control in a compact, comfortable and luxurious design. Its smooth, luminescent finish impresses in the hand while its fluid lines and small, contoured form wraps comfortably around the natural curve of the ear, and allows for the more discreet color to show when worn.

Moxi Fit features intuitively functional components that improve product handling. Wearers can easily control volume or select programs with the push of a button. Based on extensive user experience and ergonomic response testing, the location and shape of the button allow for intuitive use, even by people with dexterity challenges. The battery door is simple to operate and right/left markers are easy to identify. For clinicians, the programming port is easy to access and receiver wires are simple to install.

"As with all our product design, our goal with Moxi Fit was to remove patient barriers, specifically through Moxi's established reputation for style, comfort and easy functionality," said Andre de Goeij, Unitron's Director of Product Management and Product Marketing. "It is a testament to our user-centric design philosophy that Moxi Fit was recognized for achieving that rare feat of providing intuitive user control without compromising size or beauty."

Moxi Fit follows in the award-winning footsteps of Unitron’s Moxi™ Kiss, which won both the Red Dot Award for Product Design in 2014, and the 2014 iF product design award.

Unitron draws rave reviews for “unprecedented listening experience” at AudiologyNOW! 2015

April 7, 2015 – Plymouth, MN – Four hundred hearing healthcare professionals attending this year’s AudiologyNOW! Conference in San Antonio, TX had a chance to test Unitron’s new Moxi™ Fit hearing instruments, featuring North, the company’s latest, most advanced technology platform. The live trials on the exhibition hall floor were the first of their kind in the industry, giving wearers an unprecedented listening experience.

The live trials were executed using Unitron’s Flex:trial™ devices and Log It All, an industry-first data logging feature in Unitron TrueFit software. Log It All tracks a patient’s listening activities across seven environments, and compares the environments of the patient with those recognized by their chosen level of technology. Hearing healthcare professionals can then provide evidence-based recommendations for selecting the optimal technology level for hearing instruments.

After wearing the Moxi™ Fit devices for up to a full day, conference participants were asked to rate their listening experiences using the Net Promoter Score (NPS®), an international standard for measuring, understanding, and improving customer experience. Unitron’s trial at AudiologyNOW! resulted in a NPS score of 91 percent.

“Our confidence in our technology and products allowed us to prove this to the most discriminating audience, the hearing healthcare professionals who are out there providing solutions for their patients every day.” said Jason Mayer, Vice President, Sales, Unitron U.S. “From our amazing new technology platform to our feature-rich fitting software, all of our efforts at Unitron are focused on helping our customers deliver an exceptional in-clinic patient experience.”

The Unitron North platform and new Moxi™ product line were officially launched by the company earlier this week.

Unitron’s new North platform takes ground-breaking approach to the variability of conversation

North brings patients closer to natural hearing and addresses number-one desire: understanding conversations in a wide range of situations

March 17, 2015 – Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of technologically advanced hearing solutions, today announced the launch of North, its ground-breaking sound processing platform that can distinguish between different types of conversation.

North’s SoundNav technology automatically identifies and classifies seven distinct environments, four focused specifically on conversation. (To learn more about the North platform, please visit www.unitron.com/north) “Conversations don’t just occur in quiet or in noise, and background noise can vary greatly depending on whether you are in small groups, at large events, in the car or on the street,” said Dr. Don Hayes, Director of Clinical Research, Unitron. “The new platform technologies work in harmony so patients automatically experience the best speech understanding – along with natural sound quality - in the widest variety of situations.”

Concurrent with the North launch, Unitron introduces a new generation of its popular receiver-in-canal (RIC) Moxi™ hearing instruments. The all-new Moxi Fit continues the tradition of Moxi design excellence with a fluid new look, giving patients the perfect combination of style and functionality with a 312 battery, push button and telecoil.  Moxi Fit joins Moxi Kiss and Moxi Dura, all available in five technology levels and all built on the North platform.

The new Moxi hearing instruments on the North platform are fully integrated with Unitron’s industry-leading Flex:trial™ program, which lets hearing healthcare professionals send patients home with free trial hearing instruments, and Flex:upgrade™, which facilitates in-clinic technology upgrades as hearing needs change.

The North, Moxi and Flex™ combination become an even more compelling solution with the introduction of Log It All, an industry first data logging feature that captures and displays a patient’s experiences with their hearing instruments across seven environments regardless of technology level. This gives hearing healthcare professionals the ability to measure the performance of hearing instruments in everyday use - as well as during trial and upgrade situations - and explain the benefits of different technology levels in a personal way.

“North, Log It All and Flex work together to empower hearing healthcare professionals to offer better listening with a focus on conversations, better insights into how the technology is performing in the real world, and risk-free hearing instrument trial and upgrade solutions,” said Jan Metzdorff, President at Unitron. “These are transformative innovations that will help to continue to build trust, increase patient confidence and help foster long-term loyalty between patients and their hearing healthcare providers.”

New Hearing App Breaks Down Barriers to Healthy Hearing

Online support kit gives hearing professionals tools and resources to reach more patients

February 9, 2015 – Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, is providing hearing healthcare professionals with a new online support kit that will help them break down barriers and improve access to hearing health for people with hearing loss.

Central to the online support kit is uHearTM 2.0, Unitron’s popular new screening app, which enables patients to assess their hearing on an iPhone® or iPad® in less than 10 minutes. The hearing app tests for hearing sensitivity, speech in noise and everyday listening performance, while offering patients:

-          three sophisticated screening tests

-         a new background noise calibrating meter

-          a built-in clinician locator to find the nearest clinic

The screening app is supported by the uHear online support kit, which provides hearing healthcare professionals with tools and resources to educate and engage a broader online audience of people who may be reluctant to seek treatment. “The impact of untreated hearing loss cannot be ignored,” said Dr. Don Hayes, Director of Clinical Research for Unitron. “On average, hearing aid users wait 7- 10 years after their initial diagnosis to be fit with their first set of hearing aids. uHear was developed with the goal to lower barriers to seeking help.” The kit provides hearing health care professionals with a variety of downloadable educational content, including digital awareness tools—like web badges, dynamic infographics and social media content—and print material that can be used to empower people with hearing loss to seek the necessary care. The World Health Organization estimates that 360 million people worldwide suffer from disabling hearing loss. In America alone, that number is 36 million, and only 20 per cent of those people who might benefit from hearing aids actually seek help. Most delay taking action until they cannot communicate even in the best of listening situations. Early and careful evaluation and support show great promise in mitigating the consequences of hearing loss on long-term health and quality of life. Unitron’s online support kit is available at: unitron.com/uhearapp

Study: Improved Hearing Enhances Quality of Life in Moderate Dementia

Preliminary findings suggest enhanced role for hearing healthcare professionals

February 4, 2015 – Plymouth, Minnesota — Early findings in a new study by the University of North Texas and Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, suggests that the quality of life is improved in impaired listeners diagnosed with moderate dementia by treating hearing loss with hearing aids, as well as the quality of life of the caregiver. The study is being conducted by Amyn M. Amlani, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of North Texas, in partnership with Brian Taylor, Au.D., Director of Practice Development and Clinical Affairs at Unitron.

Researchers have already been able to show some improvement in cognitive ability among participants using hearing aids, suggesting new therapeutic potential for the devices. If conclusive, the findings could enhance the role of hearing healthcare professionals in rehabilitating patients diagnosed with cognitive decline in relation to his or her hearing.

“This study looks at whether improved hearing can improve cognitive functioning for people who have already been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia,” said Dr. Amlani. “In particular, we want to understand whether better hearing can play a role in helping people with dementia lead more active and engaged lives, particularly if hearing loss is identified and treated early.”

Previous studies have found that people with hearing loss are significantly more likely to develop dementia over time compared to those with normal hearing. But no data yet exists showing that dementia can actually be improved through the use of hearing aids.

“Given the expected sharp increase in dementia cases over the next few decades, our findings could have significant implications for aging individuals as they begin experiencing hearing loss,” said Taylor. “Unitron is focused on providing solutions for healthcare providers so they can better serve their patients, and get them the treatment they need.”

The study includes adults 50-90 years’ of age with moderate dementia who are inexperienced with amplification devices. It measures speech-recognition performance in noise, cognition and self-reported improvements in quality of life. The study is expected to be completed in late 2015.

Unitron and City University of New York (CUNY) Partner to Help Physicians Better Screen Patients For Hearing Loss

February 02, 2015, Plymouth, Minnesota — Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, in partnership with Barbara E. Weinstein, Professor and Founding Executive Officer of the Doctor of Audiology Program (Au.D.) at CUNY, has designed a hearing healthcare toolkit to help physicians better screen patients for hearing loss and help them break down the barriers keeping them from getting the help they need.

The new “Hearing Healthcare Toolkit for Use in Primary and Geriatric Care” was created by Barbara E. Weinstein, Ph.D., The Graduate Center, CUNY, and Brian Taylor Au.D., Director of Practice Development and Clinical Affairs, Unitron, Plymouth, MN.

“The number of Americans who need hearing healthcare services but don’t get them is disturbing,” explains Taylor. “As a company, Unitron is focused on providing solutions for healthcare providers so they can better serve their patients, and get them the treatment they need. Early screening is another way of helping mitigate the effects that hearing loss can have on long-term health and quality of life.”

Ongoing research has uncovered links between hearing loss and a growing list of other health conditions. In some cases, hearing loss may be an indicator of serious conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Untreated hearing loss may also contribute to health risks such as dementia, depression, falling and illnesses that require hospitalization.

“Primary care physicians typically serve as gatekeepers for individuals who may be hearing impaired,” says Weinstein. “In many instances they do not recognize the profound physical, cognitive and emotional consequences of untreated hearing loss, which might initially be perceived as less urgent than other health concerns.”

Unitron invites healthcare professionals to download a complimentary copy of the toolkit:

Unitron Expands Industry-First Flex Program Ahead of EUHA Congress

Improvements bring greater efficiency and transparency
to patient care

October 14, 2014 - Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, is expanding its industry-first Flex™ program to make the best first fit experience even better for patients while allowing clinicians to better track the results of hearing aid trials.

Highlights of the expanded program include Flex:tracker, which allows clinicians to easily and efficiently track hearing aid trials using Unitron’s TrueFit™ fitting software. Flex:trial™ allows hearing healthcare professionals to send patients home with free trial hearing instruments, so they can experience the recommended amplification in their own environments. And for patients already using Unitron hearing instruments, Flex:upgrade™ permits instant in-clinic technology upgrades as hearing needs change.

Since it was introduced, the Flex™ program has been widely adopted throughout Europe, with thousands of hearing healthcare professionals using Flex:trial on a regular basis. In Germany, for example, according to a recent global independent study of the clinical and business impacts of the Flex™ program, 78 per cent of hearing healthcare professionals report using Flex:trial with the majority of their patients. The same survey also shows that as a result of the program, a majority of Unitron’s customers also report a better patient experience, reduced returns, faster acceptance and an increase in hearing instrument purchases, often at a higher technology level.

With Flex:trial alone, more than 80 per cent of hearing healthcare professionals achieved an improved customer experience and higher sales percentages when the flexibility of trial was introduced into the consultation process. Full details of the Flex program can be found at:

http://unitron.com/unitron/global/en/professional/hearing-solutions/flex.html

In addition to showcasing new Flex program functionalities, Unitron will be featuring new software and product demonstrations at the 59th International Congress of Hearing Aid Acousticians in Hanover, Germany, on October 15-17, 2014. Visitors to the Unitron booth can experience:

  • Moxi™2 Pro demonstration – a three-screen demo highlighting the sound quality of Unitron’s next generation Pro technology and Automatic Program in multiple listening environments
  • Patient display screens that enhance the Unitron TrueFit fitting experience
  • An affordable new product on the Era platform, the Shine™Rev line-up, offered in a full range of BTE and custom styles
  • uHear™ v2.0, an updated version of an iPhone/iPod based app that allows for in-home hearing evaluation; the world’s most widely downloaded and used hearing test

Unitron Establishes Company Office in São Paulo, Brazil

Pursues greater customer intimacy and market expansion

October 08, 2014 - Kitchener, Canada – Pursuing significant opportunities for market expansion, as well as the benefits of working directly with its Brazilian long-time customer base, after a period of about 20 years working in the Brazilian market in partnership with a distributor, Unitron, a global company in advanced hearing solutions, has opened a new office in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“So much of what we do today is focused on helping our customers realize growth within their hearing healthcare practices,” said

Jan Metzdorff, President at Unitron. “Establishing a company office will not only allow us to grow our share of the Brazilian market, but will strengthen our position to support existing customers in their pursuit of business success.”

The Unitron team in Brazil will led by Luiz Eringer, an industry expert who has been working within the Sonova Group since 2005.

“Brazil is an important and underserved market,” said Luiz Eringer, General Director of Sales, Unitron Brazil. “Currently, only one in 20 people with hearing loss wears a hearing aid in our country. This is four times lower than the average rate in Europe or North America. There is much work to do to ensure Brazilians get the hearing help and support they need.”

With the addition of the São Paulo, Brazil, Unitron now has 22 offices around the globe with distribution in more than 70 countries.

Unitron Hosts European Conference

Event places the patient and practice growth at the center of the conversation

October 7th, 2014 - Kitchener, ON, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, welcomed more than 120 hearing healthcare professionals and company executives from Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Russia, Spain and the UK, to a two-day customer conference, held in Vienna on September 25 and 26. The event was designed to put patient care and practice growth center stage. The conference dialogue ranged from the role of the manufacturer to business opportunities arising from enhancing patient experience.

“We developed this event in order to generate a meaningful dialogue between ourselves and our customers in the context of today’s changing marketplace,” said Jan Metzdorff, President at Unitron. “We believe practice growth is a direct result of the in-clinic experience. This is where hearing aid advocates are born and there is no doubt in our minds that we have a role to play in creating greater business opportunities for our customers by looking at what can be done to support an enhanced patient experience.”

Unitron hosted more than 120 hearing healthcare professionals and company executives at a
customer conference held in Vienna on September 25 and 26.

Delivered simultaneously in four languages (English, French, German and Spanish), the event featured expert keynotes and breakout sessions that encouraged knowledge sharing and collaboration. Highlights included:

  • New customer relationship trends
  • In-clinic, patient-centered care
  • Best practice exchanges
  • Live interactive survey of attendees
  • Findings from a global study on barriers to care

“While our industry has made great strides in the areas of product innovation, development and design, we believe there are substantial growth opportunities for us by focusing on the human side of the equation,” said Metzdorff. “Barriers to the acceptance and use of hearing aids remain. In fact, the majority of those in our society who could benefit from hearing aids never get fitted for them. We are committed to finding innovative ways to work with our customers to drive greater adoption and, ultimately, practice success. Unitron’s Flex™ program is a good example of how we are thinking originally on these issues.”

Unitron is the first in the industry to introduce an entirely risk- and obligation-free option that allows new patients to ‘test drive’ personalized hearing instruments. The Flex™ program has been developed to overcome patient insecurities when seeking the help they need.

During a live and interactive survey conducted at the conference, participants confirmed findings from a recent independent global survey that showed product trial is a key driver for practice growth. In fact, more than 80 per cent of hearing healthcare professionals achieved an improved customer experience and higher sales percentages when the flexibility that comes with trial was introduced into the consultation process.

“It is clear from my direct experience that Unitron’s approach with Flex is spot on,” said Pádraig MacGinty, conference participant and multi-clinic owner from Ireland. “Taking selling out of the process during an initial consultation allows trust to develop between the patient and the hearing healthcare professional. It also allows the patient to immediately experience the full benefits of a hearing aid in their everyday listening situations.”

Unitron’s independent global survey, also, shows that the company’s customers are incorporating Flex™ into their practice in a number of important ways:

  • Allowing patients to listen to different levels of technology before they make a purchase decision (79%)
  • To start patients with amplification in their first appointment while ordering their new hearing instrument (67%)
  • In marketing campaigns to attract more patients to try hearing instruments (28%)

Full details of the Flex™ program can be found at:
http://unitron.com/unitron/global/en/professional/hearing-solutions/flex.html

Unitron Celebrates 50 Years

Technology Changes but Relationships Remain a Constant in Company’s History

June 4th, 2014 - Kitchener, ON, Canada – Unitron is proudly celebrating 50 years of building strong relationships with hearing healthcare professionals and delivering great products and services to support them with their patients.

Founded in 1964 in Newfoundland, Canada, by partners Fred Stork, Rolf Strothmann, and Rolf Dohmer, Unitron became the first Canadian manufacturer of hearing aid technology. Unitron is now one of the fastest growing hearing instrument companies in the world, with global and Canadian headquarters located in Waterloo Region, Canada’s ‘Silicon Valley’. Today, Unitron delivers hearing instruments in 70 countries through 20 international offices and a network of distribution partners. Throughout its history, Unitron has thrived and grown, always guided by the belief that this business is built on the strength of personal relationships, and that its products are really opportunities to make life better for people with hearing loss.

A history of innovating to make life better

Since Unitron’s founding, its product development has focused on products and features that offer real benefits to the people who use them. In the 1960s through mid-1980s – the analog years – Unitron became a leader in power BTEs for people with severe to profound hearing losses. By the 1990s, programmable hearing aids and fitting software were changing the face of the industry: Unitron was there with user-friendly, intuitive fitting software advancements that made fittings more streamlined and helped improve first-fit acceptance. The digital revolution followed next and was an industry game changer. Unitron first introduced Unison, the product that made digital technology accessible to all, and today the Company continues to develop signature features to specifically address speech preservation and intelligibility, including the award-winning AntiShock™, SmartFocus™, and most recently SpeechZone™ 2.

Unitron Completes Next Generation Product Portfolio with Premium Level

Moxi² Pro and Quantum² Pro offer wearers the ultimate listening experience
in all environments

March 26th, 2014 - Kitchener, Canada – Unitron today announced the introduction of Pro, the new premium technology level for its Moxi² and Quantum² product families. Pro delivers a number of industry leading enhancements, including SpeechZone™ 2, ensuring wearers experience incredibly natural sound, less distraction from everyday noises, and superior speech understanding, to create an ultimate listening experience.

360 degree speech detection with SpeechZone 2
Unique to Pro for Quantum² and Moxi², SpeechZone 2 can pinpoint speech within 360 degrees and respond intelligently to provide superior results for speech in noise. Activated when speech is present in a noisy environment, its sensors rapidly determine if speech is coming from the front, back, left or right side of the listener. SpeechZone 2 then automatically selects a binaural or asymmetric synchronized microphone strategy to ensure the best possible speech understanding in noise. This ability to target speech from any direction is made possible by the next generation of binaural spatial processing.

“Anytime we can make a hearing instrument more intelligent, we have an opportunity to provide a better hearing experience for the wearer. With SpeechZone 2 we are able to target the exact location of speech, providing wearers with ease of listening in some of the most challenging listening circumstances,” says Dr. Don Hayes, Director of Clinical Research, Unitron. “The binaural system enabling SpeechZone 2 is uniquely efficient in that it has two intelligent subsystems working independently, yet coordinating when necessary. And its automatic approach works 5x faster; enabling accurate, rapid detection of speech without compromising awareness, or creating disruption for the wearer.”

Pro creates an ultimate listening experience for patients
Powered by the Era™ platform, Moxi² Pro and Quantum² Pro offers wearers an ultimate listening experience in all environments. The combination of advanced technologies: a sophisticated four destination Automatic Program, SmartFocus 2 and SpeechZone 2, provide patients with ease of listening in both quiet and noisy environments. The orchestration of these technologies, perfected by Unitron’s research and development team, result in incredibly natural sound, less distraction from everyday noises, and better understanding of speech in noise.

Available with Flex™
Individuals seeking to ‘test drive’ Pro with either Quantum² or Moxi² hearing instruments can do so through Unitron’s unique Flex:trial™ program that allows patients to experience the benefits of amplification in their everyday lives with no risk or obligation. And for current wearers of Moxi² or Quantum² hearing instruments looking to experience this premium technology level, there is Flex:upgrade™.

“With the introduction of Pro for Quantum² and Moxi² we complete Unitron’s next generation product portfolio and once again deliver significant advancements for speech understanding in noise,” says Bruce Brown, Vice President of Global Marketing, Unitron. “We are committed to providing our hearing healthcare partners with full product lines -- including best in class premium products – and advancements that will truly address their patients’ needs and ultimately lead to greater practice success.”

The global availability of Quantum² Pro and Moxi² Pro begins the end of April 2014. Please contact your Unitron representative for availability in your market.

Unitron’s Moxi Kiss Wins 2014 Red Dot Product Design Award

Intelligent, refined hearing instrument gains further international recognition for product design excellence

March 24th, 2014 - Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, today celebrated the news that its intelligent, refined Moxi™ Kiss hearing instrument has earned a“Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014”, an internationally recognized distinction celebrating excellence in product design.

With origins dating back to 1954, the Red Dot Product Design Award ranks among the largest and most renowned design competitions in the world today, spanning a spectrum of 23 product categories from interior design, to consumer electronics, to healthcare.

Moxi Kiss was recognized for outstanding product design out of a field of 4,815 applications from 1,816 companies representing 53 countries. An international jury of 40 distinguished design experts evaluated each submission against criteria including innovation, functionality, emotional content and ecological aspects  -- to name a few.

The intelligent design and luxurious finish of Moxi Kiss realizes Unitron’s design goal to create a product that wearers would rate as stylish, discreet and comfortable, and hearing healthcare providers would be proud to represent. The hearing instrument’s outer shell was meticulously designed, including precision of the tooling to the micron level to get the smallest form possible, and a G2 curvature to ensure a luxurious finish. Advances in mechanical design ensure Moxi Kiss’ internal functionality upholds Unitron’s commitment to high fidelity natural sound, providing wearers a high degree of listening comfort even in the most difficult noise environments.

This is Moxi Kiss’ second international recognition for outstanding design this year. In February 2014 the hearing instrument claimed the 2014 iF product design award.

“We are honoured to have Moxi Kiss recognized yet again by the world’s leaders in product design.  Moxi Kiss represents the first step in a new design evolution for Unitron’s hearing instruments that will continue for years to come.  This Red Dot award provides further validation that we are absolutely on the right path,”  says Jan Metzdorff, President, Unitron.  “In creating Moxi Kiss, our team studied the best in the world, pushed through design barriers and ultimately created an outstanding product design that is intelligent, beautiful, and truly worthy of international recognition.”

Unitron’s Moxi Kiss Wins iF Product Design Award 2014

Refined and intelligent design puts Unitron’s hearing instrument on the world stage

February 5th, 2014 - Kitchener, Canada – Unitron, a global innovator of advanced hearing solutions, is pleased to announce that its Moxi™ Kiss hearing instrument has won an internationally recognized iF product design award 2014.

For 60 years, the iF product design award has been an internationally recognized label for award-winning design, and the iF brand has become a symbol for outstanding achievements in design. Moxi Kiss was selected as one of this year’s winners out of more than 3,200 entries by a jury of experts and renowned designers from all over the world, who evaluated each submission against such criteria as design, quality, finish, choice of materials, degree of innovation and more.

Released to market in March 2013, Moxi Kiss is the first step in a design evolution for Unitron’s hearing instruments that will ultimately play out over many years. While the Moxi Kiss product was still on the drawing board, Unitron’s product design teams worked with industry-leading designers to study advanced industrial design trends and establish an all-encompassing framework that expresses Unitron’s brand essence, and the function and personality of its product families. This industrial design language was instrumental in forming Moxi Kiss’ organic, fluid form.

“Moxi Kiss is designed to be as intelligent as it is beautiful,” says Ara Talaslian, Vice President of Research & Development, Unitron. “The hearing instrument’s outer shell was meticulously designed, including precision of the tooling to the micron level and a G2 curvature to ensure a luxurious finish. Advances in mechanical design ensure Moxi Kiss’ internal functionality upholds Unitron’s commitment to high fidelity natural sound, providing wearers a high degree of listening comfort even in the most difficult noise environments.”

In a recent survey, Unitron customers from several key countries gave Moxi Kiss high marks for satisfaction specifically for comfort on the ear; overall design and shape; and high quality look and feel.

“We are very proud to have Moxi Kiss recognized with an iF product design award. To be selected amongst a field of thousands is indeed an honour, and a clear recognition of our team’s focused commitment to creating both an aesthetically pleasing and highly functional hearing instrument,” says Jan Metzdorff, President, Unitron. “When we created Moxi Kiss, our goal was to design a hearing instrument that wearers would rate as stylish, discreet and comfortable, and hearing healthcare providers would be proud to represent. I believe we have succeeded in achieving those goals; Moxi Kiss is beautiful in form, powerful in performance, and now, award-winning on the world stage.”

Unitron US and Customers Build and Deliver Teddy Bears to Children in Hospital

January 15th, 2014 - Plymouth, Minnesota — For a sick child in hospital, a cuddle with a teddy bear can be a real day brightener. To help more children in need enjoy this simple pleasure, hearing healthcare manufacturer Unitron US launched a program to create and deliver adorable teddy bears, each one individually stuffed and dressed, to

children’s hospitals across the country. Unitron US kicked off the Teddy Bear initiative at its Plymouth, Minn., headquarters in May 2013. For the next several months, Unitron staff, joined by more than 300 hearing healthcare providers at special customer events, created and delivered hundreds of bears to the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital.

“Our team at Unitron is passionate about helping people, and in this initiative we were able to join with our like-minded hearing healthcare customers to channel that passion into a fun and very gratifying activity to help children in hospital,” says Dan Lindhorst, Director of Marketing, Unitron US. “After several Unitron staff members personally delivered the teddy bears and experienced the difference this gift can make for a sick child, we knew we had to keep this going.”

Unitron expanded its Teddy Bear initiative in October 2013, marrying it up with its regional seminar program delivered to customers in 35 cities across the country.

“A portion of each seminar was devoted to helping our customers, who are owners of small to medium-sized independent businesses, personally connect with their local communities,” explains Lindhorst. “This time our customers helped us not only create, but also deliver the teddy bears to a local hospital, allowing everyone to experience that important connection to the children in the hospital.”

To date, Unitron US and its customers have donated nearly 1,000 teddy bears to children’s hospitals nationwide.

Unitron Scientist Claims Ernest C. Manning Innovation Award

Dr. Henry Luo recognized for revolutionary AntiShock hearing instrument innovation

September 30, 2013 - Kitchener, ON, Canada – Unitron announced today that one of their leading research scientists, Dr. Henry Luo, has won the David E. Mitchell Award of Distinction, presented by the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation. Dr. Luo and the other 2013 Manning Award winners will be honored at a gala evening with leaders from across Canada in government, business, and academia including Manning Laureates. The event will be held October 16, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta.

One of Canada’s most prestigious annual award programs, the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation has celebrated the achievements of more than 200 exceptional individuals with the “imagination to innovate and the stamina to succeed”.

Drawn from fields as diverse as medicine, technology, industrial processes, engineering and social entrepreneurship – the men and women recognized with Manning Awards have helped to change the way Canada competes, manufactures, communicates and sets standards for social behavior. Their contributions have been felt across the country and around the world.

Dr. Henry Luo’s winning invention, a technology called AntiShock™, is a patented, industry-first innovation that instantly detects and controls sudden, harsh noises – such as the shatter of a glass on a ceramic floor or a car door slamming – that cause a hearing aid wearer real discomfort (called acoustic shock). AntiShock uniquely combines two technologies, one for shock prediction and the other for instantaneous shock detection, enabling Unitron’s hearing instruments to reliably detect acoustic shock and mitigate its effect – before the sound becomes audible to the listener − and most importantly, without impacting their ability to clearly hear speech and conversations.

AntiShock is today integrated into all of Unitron’s hearing aids, as well those of another leading hearing healthcare manufacturer. More than five million hearing aids sold to date incorporate AntiShock technology, providing millions of hearing aid wearers with a more comfortable hearing experience, while improving their satisfaction with their hearing aids.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized with a Manning Innovation Award and I am grateful for the recognition this award brings to Unitron,” says Dr. Henry Luo. “Simply put, innovation is my life’s work. It challenges me and my success in this field provides me with endless happiness. It is even more rewarding as an innovator to know that the scientific advancements I am able to make in the field of hearing healthcare will positively impact the lives of people with hearing loss. It is that knowledge that truly makes all the difference.”

“We have an extraordinary culture of innovation at Unitron, and we are honored to have Dr. Luo and our AntiShock technology recognized by the Ernest C. Manning Award Foundation,” says Ara Talaslian, Vice President of Research & Development, Unitron. “The AntiShock technology has had a significant impact on the lives of people with hearing loss, allowing them to move through their lives and changing sound environments with ease and comfort. We are fortunate to benefit from Dr. Luo’s commitment to amplification research; his scientific curiosity; and his extraordinary track record of innovation.”

Unitron Makes it Easy for Individuals to Find a Hearing Healthcare Professional

June 12, 2013 - Plymouth, Minnesota — Unitron US has launched new enhancements to the ’locate a professional’ feature on its website, aimed at helping people who suspect they may have hearing loss quickly and easily find the help they need.

The newly enhanced “locate a professional” feature helps a visitor to the Unitron US website find a professional in their local area searching by city, state and/or zip code. Search results provide clinic names and phone numbers, and an integrated Google map offers directions. It is one of several features on Unitron’s website aimed at assisting an individual in their hearing healthcare journey. Unitron also offers people with hearing loss, or those who suspect that they may have a hearing loss, and their families the ability to:

  • Take a hearing self-assessment similar to Unitron’s popular uHear™ iTunes® application
  • View the different hearing device styles, fit and color
  • Learn about the process of having their hearing tested and being fitted with hearing instruments

“From easily finding a professional to make that first appointment, to taking hearing instruments for a risk-free ‘test drive’ with our Flex:trial™ program, we’re actively seeking new ways to support our hearing healthcare partners,” says Rodney Schutt, President, Unitron US. “Too often, people who suspect they have hearing loss fail to seek treatment because they are not sure of the process or where to go for help. We’re just making it simpler for them to find a hearing professional and take that next step to getting the information they need.”

May 13, 2013 — Kitchener, Canada — Unitron today announced the appointment of Jason Mayer as Vice President of Sales at Unitron US. In this position, Jason will lead the company’s Commercial Sales, Inside Sales, Customer Service and Professional Services.

Before joining Unitron, Mayer worked for nearly 10 years at hearing aid manufacturer Phonak UK, where he served as Regional Sales Manager, Key Accounts Manager, Sales Manager Private Sector and, most recently, as UK Sales Director.

“Jason brings an impressive background of hearing industry and sales experience to Unitron US,” says Unitron US President Rodney Schutt. “Just as importantly, it is clear that he shares our company values, particularly our overriding commitment to helping our customers satisfy their patients’ needs, and as result, realize greater success in their business.”

Likewise, Mayer believes that Unitron is the right fit for him. “Hearing healthcare providers need more than innovative, high-quality hearing aids,” he says. “Unitron really focuses on partnerships. Hearing Healthcare Professionals Praise New Unitron Hearing Aid ‘Test Drive’ Program

Unique Flex program improves hearing instrument adoption and satisfaction, and helps reduce new patient ’drop out’ rate

March 20, 2013 – Minneapolis, Minnesota – Unitron U.S. today announced it will offer its innovative Flex:trial™ and Flex:upgrade™ programs to a broader range of customers, after a successful pilot phase drew widespread praise from participating hearing healthcare professionals (HHCPs).

The Flex™ program offers the industry’s first truly risk- and obligation-free option for potential new patients to ‘test drive’ personalized hearing instruments, addressing the up to 50 percent of people who fail to purchase a hearing aid, despite visiting a provider.

“Our industry is long overdue for a patient-centric solution to hearing aid trial that is also easy and beneficial for providers,” said Rodney Schutt, President, Unitron U.S. “The Flex program removes common barriers to patient acceptance and satisfaction with hearing aids, while giving providers the flexibility to program a single instrument to higher or lower levels of technology – as many times as needed – in order to provide a trial that’s uniquely suited to the patient’s needs.”

After launching the program as a pilot to more than 50 providers nationwide, Unitron received universal praise for applying the concept of a ‘test drive’ to an industry that previously offered few chances for patients to experience the benefits of hearing instruments in their day-to-day lives before making a purchase. The Flex program addresses the fact that up to 50 percent of all potential new patients who visit a hearing healthcare practice leave without purchasing an instrument, mainly due to concerns about cost and benefits – whether the hearing aid they have tried in the office will be right for daily living.

“The Flex program brought in more patients than I could have imagined, and almost every patient brought a family member,” says Dominick Servedio, Au.D., P.C., in New York City. “Typically we see four to five patients a day in January and February. With the Flex program, we’re seeing seven to 10 patients a day. Closing rates are usually 20 to 30 percent, but I’ve had a closing rate of 80 percent with the trial. Flex has been extraordinary.”

Flex:trial – the industry’s first customized hearing aid ‘test drive’
Typically, hearing aid trials are limited to an audiologist’s office and don’t offer patients a chance to experience the benefits of hearing instruments in their everyday lives. Other trial programs use a limited number of instruments for trials, often without a full variety of technologies, and require patients to pay for the instrument up-front and receive a refund if they choose not to purchase.

With Flex:trial, patients who are resistant to trying hearing aids or nervous about the financial commitment can be fit with a Flex:trial device with the right technology level for them to try at home with no cost and no obligation, to see how better hearing can improve their lives and enhance the daily activities they enjoy.

The difference is in the instrument itself, as Flex: trial units are not conventional demonstration models. Using Unitron’s TrueFit™ software, providers are able to program a single hearing instrument to higher or lower levels of technology as many times as needed, for the time period they choose, in order to provide a trial solution to a patient. Those newly diagnosed with hearing loss get immediate access to the product with the technology level best suited to their needs, focusing their attention on the benefits of better hearing. Providers report that patients return to the office after the trial more satisfied with their decision and ready to purchase.

“As the owner of a private practice, you’re always looking for ways to connect your patients with the best technology at an affordable price, while making the process easier for everyone involved,” said Adam Bernstein, owner of The Hearing Professionals, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “With Flex, we’ve found a way to do that. Once patients experience how the technology can help them in their daily lives, the instruments practically sell themselves.”

Flex:upgrade – technology upgrades made easy for patients and providers
The Unitron Flex program also provides an upgrade option for patients who would like to increase the level of technology on their current hearing instrument – perhaps due to changes in preferences or lifestyle – but don’t want to invest in an entirely new instrument.

Unitron is the first within the hearing healthcare marketplace to offer providers the ability to upgrade technology on an existing instrument within their own clinic, even after purchase.

For more information on how to qualify for the Flex program and availability in your region, please contact your Unitron representative.

Unitron Introduces Moxi Kiss

New, refined design combined with high fidelity natural sound delivers what patients want

March 18, 2013 - Kitchener, Canada – Unitron today announced Moxi™ Kiss, the newest 312 receiver in canal (RIC) hearing instrument with a design aimed at improving patient acceptance.  The latest product to be released on the Era™ platform, Moxi Kiss marries a fluid, refined design with Unitron’s commitment to delivering high fidelity natural sound.

Putting Patient Comfort First
Moxi Kiss represents an evolution in design for Unitron’s Moxi product family, putting the comfort of the patient at the forefront. Designed to look great in the hand and

provide maximum visual appeal for the first time wearer, Moxi Kiss delivers the perfect balance of fit, finish, and colour. The hearing instrument is organic in form, with a refined and luxurious finish, and is available in a rich colour palette. Slim, smooth and push button free, Moxi Kiss is extremely comfortable to wear.

“One of the barriers a hearing healthcare practitioner must overcome is the patient’s psychological resistance to the product – as new patients often express anxiety around the look and feel of a hearing instrument,” explains Bruce Brown, Vice President, Global Marketing, Unitron. “A well designed hearing instrument that is pleasing to the eye, nearly invisible on the ear, and comfortable to wear can go far in overcoming a patient’s pre-conceived notions about what hearing aids look and feel like. Moxi Kiss delivers on every count.”

A natural sound experience free of acoustical artifacts is also essential for a patient’s comfort. Moxi Kiss continues to deliver on the high fidelity natural sound Unitron’s Moxi product family has come to stand for. Within Moxi Kiss is Unitron’s Automatic Program incorporating SmartFocus™ and SpeechZone™ technologies which provide natural sound quality, outstanding speech intelligibility in noise and undetectable transitions to changing sound environments.

Intelligent Design
The intelligent industrial design of Moxi Kiss achieves a delicate balance between a fluid and refined outer shell design with functionality, both in performance and ease of use. The hearing instrument’s patent pending outer shell was meticulously designed including precision of the tooling to the micron level and G2 curvature to ensure a luxurious finish.

Moxi Kiss’ mechanical design was also taken to a new level. A RIC slider pin makes changing receivers an effortless task. The programming jack is angled for easy cable plug in for fitting. Codification markers are easy to install and visible, and the battery door won’t over open or allow the battery to fall out. These seemingly little refinements come together to make the fit and use of the Moxi Kiss easier for both the HHCP and the patient.

Increasing patient acceptance with Flex:trial
Moxi Kiss is available through Unitron’s new Flex:trial™ program, a unique product and service concept only available from Unitron that offers HHCPs a risk-free opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of hearing instruments. Patients wear a personalized Moxi Kiss Flex:trial device home after the first appointment for a trial period, allowing them to experience the benefits in real, everyday situations. Experiencing the benefits of wearing Moxi Kiss without risk or obligation helps to reduce any uncertainty while immediately improving the quality of life for those patients.

”Unitron is committed to building a global brand recognized for its commitment to helping its customers achieve success in their business, and for developing hearing instruments with excellent performance and commercial appeal,” says Jan Metzdorff, President, Unitron. “Over the last couple years, we have taken significant leaps in sound quality with our Era platform, and our Quantum and Moxi product families. Now, with Moxi Kiss we take another leap forward in the design of our hearing instruments – creating a hearing instrument that is both beautiful in form, and powerful in performance.”

Conference alert: Visit Unitron at AudiologyNOW! 2013 at booth # 1314 and see the new Moxi Kiss hearing instrument and learn more about Flex, the first and only risk-free trial business solution for trial and upgradeable hearing instruments.
