Meet Ed Peters

“uDirect streaming music feature is really neat - the sound is awesome!”

Ed Peters was born with hearing loss, and was first diagnosed at age seven, when a teacher drew the issue to his parent’s attention. He was fitted with hearing aids at that time, but their bulky size made him feel self-conscious as a child – so he rarely used them.

Only recently has Ed begun wearing his hearing aids regularly. A practicing electrician, he has recently returned to school to become an electrical engineer, and as part of that life change, recognized that he was missing out on information being presented and it was time to revisit wearing hearing aids. Ed was fitted with Moxi™, a tiny hearing instrument that is virtually invisible, yet provides a high fidelity listening experience with big impact.

"Moxi puts the control in my hands – and its ability to
adjust automatically to a variety of listening situations meant
I rarely had to change the program myself.”

The change for Ed was nearly instantaneous. Prior to being fitted for Moxi, Ed had owned three sets of hearing aids in his lifetime, and always described his listening experience as “listening to voices in a tin can.” With Moxi, he immediately benefitted from a more natural sound, and even better, hardly felt the hearing instrument as he wore it. “The listening experience with Moxi was much better. The sound is much more natural. And I have a great deal more control over my own listening experience.” In the past if he wanted to make an adjustment to his hearing aid, it was a real hassle. “I needed to book an appointment with my audiologist, and the testing would never really reflect my real world experience. "Moxi puts the control in my hands – and its ability to adjust automatically to a variety of listening situations meant I rarely had to change the program myself.”

Background noise was always a significant issue for Ed. He often had difficulty in hearing people – even those directly in front of him – in white noise environments. Church, school, and restaurants all presented listening challenges for Ed. Moxi has offered a much better, and more natural listening experience. “Compared with my other hearing aids, Moxi is far better than anything I’ve tried before. It doesn’t change the way things sound – it just makes the sound clearer and very natural.”

Moxi also helps to balance out Ed’s listening experience by reducing loud sudden noises. Where in the past a loud sound – like the siren of a fire truck - would result in a ringing or whistling in his ear. With Moxi, sound volume adjusts automatically so that the noise is not so sharp and annoying.

Ed’s become a big fan of uDirect, a hearing accessory for Moxi that allows a wearer to interact with a cell phone or audio device, such as an MP3 player. He uses uDirect to listen to stereo sound directly into his ear, and to keep his hands free when driving and talking on the phone.

“I would absolutely recommend Moxi with uDirect for young people with hearing loss. Moxi’s small size, comfort and control allows you to more easily adjust and adjust to wearing a hearing aid. And the uDirect’s streaming music feature is really neat – the sound is awesome!”
