Tandem™ client profile

Tandem™ is designed to provide benefit to individuals with unaidable unilateral hearing loss by increasing awareness of sound originating from their poor side. By helping clients overcome the “head shadow effect,” which impedes the transfer of sound from one side of the head to the other, Tandem empowers them to participate more fully in life.

Benefits of hearing from both sides with Tandem™

Enhanced ability to participate in conversations
Greater awareness of their name being called, with the opportunity to respond
Improved perception of warning signals originating from poor side
Increased confidence when attending social functions
Freedom to go where they like with improved awareness of their environment
Ability to hear sounds originating from their poor ear side without turning their head

How Tandem™ improves listening

Tandem can be programmed as a CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signal) or BiCROS (Bilateral Contralateral Routing of Signal) solution, depending on whether the better ear also has some degree of hearing loss.

CROS - Since the better ear has normal hearing, the receiver hearing instrument (HI) microphone is turned off. The receiver HI accepts the signal from the transmitter HI and presents it to the better ear.

BiCROS - Microphones in both the transmitter and receiver hearing instruments (HI) are active. These signals are added together and then amplified to be audible in the better hearing ear.
