Merle Stewart has worn hearing instruments for the past eight years, but her new Passport™ ITC (In-The-Canal) hearing instruments have brought ease of listening to a whole new level. SmartFocus™, a new hearing technology, allows Merle to focus on the sounds in front of her, or experience a gradual increase in awareness of sounds all around her depending on her listening needs. She turns her smartFocus control wheel towards “Clarity” when she wants to focus on conversations in front of her and pull speech out of noisy environments. At a card party with 200 people, Merle left her hearing aids in the automatic program and used smartFocus to reduce the background noise and make speech clearer. She also finds smartFocus is effective at reducing the loud traffic sounds around her home making everyday listening more comfortable and enjoyable.
Merle prefers using her convenient Smart Control remote for volume, program and smartFocus adjustments because the buttons and controls are larger and easier to manipulate.

“I really like being able to adjust my hearing aids using smartFocus. I can also hear so much better in noisy situations”,she says.
Merle uses the automatic listening program for most situations, reducing the number of adjustments needed throughout the day. She rates Passport’s speech clarity as “10 out of 10” even when listening on the telephone and in rooms with low ceilings – listening situations that posed particular challenges for her in the past. She can hear her four-year-old neighbour “perfectly now”, and friends and family are noticing that she isn’t missing conversations anymore.
Merle appreciates Passport’s antiShock™ technology that reduces loud, sudden impulse noises like doors slamming and clattering dishes in restaurants. Her back door requires people to really tug at it to close it properly. With her new Passport hearing aids, the back door slamming doesn’t cause her listening discomfort anymore.
