uHear™ is a unique hearing loss screening test application available for download to the iPhone™ and iPod touch®. uHear can screen for a potential hearing loss through three assessments: Hearing Sensitivity, Speech in Noise and a Questionnaire about common listening situations. uHear also offers a ‘Locate’ function to help users find the nearest hearing health care professional for a full assessment.
uHear is for everyone. It curbs users’ curiosity with a simple, low risk and convenient six minute test from the comfort of their home. Parents and teachers can use uHear to promote healthy hearing. It can be shared with family and friends.
uHear is available for download on iTunes® for free: http://itunes.com/apps/uhear (you will need the iTunes application installed on your computer to download uHear).
Please note: uHear is not intended to replace the hearing assessments provided by a hearing health care professional. In the application, Unitron advises users that they should visit a hearing health care professional for further testing if a hearing loss is suspected.
uHear is comprised of 4 sections: Measure, Results, Learn and Locate.
Measure
Three tests for assessing hearing include:
| 1. Hearing Sensitivity - assesses a user’s ability to hear at different frequencies. 2. Speech in Noise - measures a user’s comfort level for understanding speech in the presence of noise. 3. Questionnaire - assesses how well a user hears in everyday situations. |
Results
The test results are plotted on a graph. uHear compares the user’s hearing results to what is normal and with varying degrees of hearing loss. uHear can also store results from previous tests and compare results of family and friends.
Learn
Learn provides interesting facts and helpful information regarding how we hear and hearing loss.
Locate
Using the GPS system on the iPhone™ or the WiFi capability on the iPod Touch®, uHear will look for hearing health care professionals in the area the user is located when using the application. uHear also offers a search function to find professionals in other locations. The hearing health care professionals listed in uHear are Unitron customers. If a professional cannot be found, the closest Unitron office with contact information will be displayed.
